Your music. Your servers. No middleman.
Headroom plays the libraries on your own servers: Jellyfin, Plex, Emby, Navidrome, Audiobookshelf. It runs a native audio engine with gapless playback, crossfade, and a parametric EQ. Nothing passes through us, and there's nothing to sign up for.

What it does
The short version: everything your server's official apps don't.
A real parametric EQ
Up to 32 bands, including peaking, shelf, and pass filters, with a live response curve, per-band solo, and a tilt control. The DSP core is written in Rust and runs inside the audio pipeline, not on top of it.
Correction for your exact headphones
Search 5,057 measured AutoEq profiles and apply one in a tap. A Wagner-style crossfeed is there for long listening sessions.
Gapless, crossfade, no pops
Albums play gapless, and an adjustable crossfade can overlap songs by up to 12 seconds. Pause and skip use short volume fades, so playback never clicks or pops.
One volume, start to finish
ReplayGain loudness leveling in track or album mode, with a fallback gain for untagged files and per-track overrides.
Lossless when it can be
Direct-streams FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, Opus, and more at source quality. On weak networks, adaptive HLS or a 320 kbps fallback keeps playback going.
Our own audio engine
The stock player dropped AirPlay on every track skip, so we replaced it with a custom engine built on AVAudioEngine and ExoPlayer. Skips are instant and the output route survives.
Downloads you keep
Download tracks, albums, artists, playlists, audiobooks, and podcast episodes, three at a time, with resume and storage analytics. Downloads are never deleted if your subscription lapses, and raw file export is free for everyone.
Radio that knows when to wander
Start a station from any track, album, or artist. It plays mostly similar music and drifts a little further as it goes. ListenBrainz recommendations are optional and off by default.
In the car, on the lock screen
CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri, AirPlay, Chromecast, and home-screen widgets with playback controls. SyncPlay keeps music in sync with friends on the same server.
Audiobooks and podcasts
Connect Audiobookshelf for books and podcasts, with chapters, per-book speed, and a sleep timer that still fires when iOS has frozen the app. Your position survives force-quits and syncs across devices.
Synced lyrics
Lyrics from your server's LRC files, highlighted line by line as the song plays.
Themes itself from the artwork
Now Playing pulls its colors from the album artwork, and the rest of the app follows.
Works with the server you already have
Headroom talks to each backend in its own protocol. Your library goes straight from your server to your phone.
Private by default
We don't run a service, so there's nothing to leak. Your server is the only source of truth.
No account
You sign into your server, not into us. There's no registration.
No ads, no tracking
No advertising SDKs and no analytics on your listening.
Crash reports are opt-in
Off by default, sanitized when you turn them on.
Try the beta
Headroom is in closed beta on iOS and Android. Every feature is free for 30 days, with no card and nothing to cancel. After that, a one-time lifetime unlock keeps Pro forever. Subscribing is optional.
